CHRISTINA WATKA

Christina Watka creates site-specific installations comprised of hundreds of hand-made ceramic pieces.  Curved and rounded pieces installed in mass produce formations evocative of naturally occurring patterns like flocks, swarms, constellations, and even topographical patterns. Palettes are typically refined to a few curated colors with gold leafed pieces sprinkled in.  Now with two bodies of work: the original Murmuration series is composed of small and round ceramic pieces while the newer Kaleidoscope series is made of larger and more irregularly shaped stoneware.  Both series play with sense of light and air, ebb and flow, as if creating a conversation with the surrounding space.

PLEASE NOTE: Christina’s work is commissioned specific to each space and installed on-site.  Ceramic pieces are permanently affixed to the wall and the works are not intended for mobility or transfer.

“I want people to feel a sense of optimism and lightness when existing with my work. I hope to evoke a certain type of joyful quiet, of peacefulness, and lively rest. I’m often told that the work feels so much more wonderful in person, and this speaks to the reason I love site-specific work.”
