JULIA SCHWARTZ

Julia Schwartz’s paintings hint at unrecognizable forms, playing with composition and color often in an illogical way.  The works feel like glimpses into a diary, containing a mixture of melancholy, longing, calm, and excitement.  Colors are tranquil while brushstrokes are erratic.  “My unconscious unfurls into a painting in the same way described by chaos theory with one small seemingly unrelated movement having an impact on the piece as a whole.” It’s a jumbled garden, a beautiful mess. Her abstract figures relate to time and loss.

“My aim in these paintings was that the inner, emotional world of my subjects– their subjective world– be revealed in the color, texture, and mark-making themselves.”
