Karl Pilato paintings are a mixture of hard-edged floral and soft landscape. Like a kaleidoscope of color and form, imagery is vague and abstract, yet clearly representative of nature. “Flowers or petals in the wind could just as easily be bits of sky.” Perpetually creating a sense of balance and movement within the work, there’s an equal tension and rhythm between what is painted and the what is left as negative space. Soft beautiful work that is floral, yet ambiguous.

“I approach an empty canvas as though sketching out a landscape, but rather than depicting a scene, my attention is on the gestural character of lines and shapes, their rhythmic interactions, and the resonance of colors.”
