MIA FARRINGTON

Mia Farrington’s work explores shapes and colors. Growing up in rural Vermont, Farrington was surrounded by lakes and quarries, allowing the shape of water to be a strong influence in her work. Colors are also a significant subject of her paintings. Influenced by travel and memories from the forests of Vermont, beaches of Maine, the mountains of Italy, and the rugged Oregon coast are all places that became experiential springboards for inspiration. Within each painting the shapes are controlled and contained by a continuous hard edge which allows color to be the primary focus. There’s a balance of negative space with bold color, a playfulness mixed with order. Each painting at first appears simple, but becomes increasingly engaging.
